FUNCTIONS OF PAREMIOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE “KOROGLU” EPIC

Abstract

This article examines the functional features of paremiological units in the Oghuz heroic epic “Koroglu”. During the analysis, it was established that proverbs and sayings in the text of the epic have summarizing, commentary and stating functions. In this regard, they perform a discursive function, acting as special units that bring a communicative fragment under a certain typical situation. In addition, proverbial proverbs play an extremely important role in the organization of discourse, acting in the form of a so-called frame (semantic) “framework,” that is, the proverb is used several times in the text. Thus, the paremiological units used give an even brighter color to the Koroglu epic.
