The Black Sea basin has played a significant role in the development of economic and trade relations between different peoples since ancient times. In modern times, the growing demand for the expansion of relations between states and peoples in transport, communications, energy, industry, agriculture, ecology, tourism and other areas has significantly increased the importance of the Black Sea region. The Black Sea, uniting the countries of the Balkans, the Mediterranean and the Caspian Sea, is today an important geopolitical and geoeconomic factor, which in turn has led to new challenges to expand regional cooperation. The establishment of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization is one of the answers to these challenges. Within the organization according to the document "BSEC Economic Agenda for the Future: Towards a Strengthening BSEC Partnership" adopted between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Georgia in 2001 and updated in 2012, in areas such as transport and trade, energy, tourism, science and technology, environmental protection, including the necessary infrastructure, agriculture, small and medium enterprise development are cooperating.
