Abstract

“Servant of Jesus Christ ... Jacob Catholicos of all Armenians, sends blessings to everyone ...Let it be known that for a long time we have been striving to acquire any village in Georgia and appropriate the proceeds from it to Saint Echmiadzin. But we failed to do this during the life of my holy fathers, the most holy Catholicos Moses (1629-1633) and Philip (1633-1655) "…This is what the Catholicos of Armenia Yakov (1655-1680) wrote in 1667, not hiding his dream, who in 1658 begged from the king of Eastern Georgia Rostom (1634-1658) the village of Nakhiduri in Kvemo (Lower) Kartli. The Armenians had such a dream both before Yakov and after him until today. The settlement of representatives of the Armenian people within the Georgian state was the norm, since they did not have their own statehood, therefore Georgia was a second homeland for them. With the arrival of Russia in the South Caucasus, Armenians changed the status of Armenians, i.e. if before that they were considered refugees and temporary residents, now they claimed that they had lived here for centuries and this land should be called not Georgia, but Armenia. In the article, on the basis of historical documents, as well as with the support of existing research, the issues of the Armenian claim to the historical regions of Georgia are covered.
