Abstract

The article studies the features of the epical time in religious tales. It is noted that epical time is a subjective time as it is formed according to the poetic features of folk tale groups, their social function, the ideas they want to instill in the society. In fairy tales, it has a fantastic character and it is given in fantastic designs. He who possesses magical powers also rules the time. He can take it back or forth and return the dead person back to life. In religious tales, time is introduced on the basis of religious and moral values. Time is beyond human will here. Time doesn’t comply the man, the man himself complies it. There is only a ruler of time that is God. The will of all things depends on him, just as time itself. He can speed it up or slow it down.
The article also notes that as time, together with space, forms a poetic system of folk tales, it becomes a distinguishing feature of folk tale groups. And when one knows the characteristic features of epical time, it is very easy to distinguish groups of folk tales.
