    Abstract

Translation is essentially a hermeneutic process, inseparable from interpretation, understanding, and rethinking of a text within the framework of another language, worldview, and culture. Its role in expanding cognitive and cultural horizons can hardly be overestimated. This article analyzes two conceptually distinct yet philosophically complementary translation projects — those of Friedrich Schleiermacher and Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Special attention is given to the conception of translation as an intellectual mediation between cultures, as well as a means of dialogue and preservation of otherness. The study highlights the continued relevance of the hermeneutic approach to translation in the context of intercultural communication and the philosophy of understanding.
