ABOUT OIL AND GAS CONTENT OF THE MAYKOP SERIES OF AZERBAIJAN

Abstract

According to modern concepts, the Maykop Series belongs to the regionally oil and gas generating, and under favorable geological conditions, to the oil and gas accumulating deposits. In this article, the Maykop Series is considered as a potential source of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, particularly, as "shale" hydrocarbons. Based on new geological and geochemical data, an assessment of the hydrocarbon potential and a forecast of the oil and gas content of individual stratigraphic units of the Maykop Series within various oil and gas regions of Azerbaijan are given. The most promising areas were identified and the recommendations on geological exploration were proposed for a comprehensive assessment of reserves.
